Officials Uniform…
These regulations apply to all games assigned by IFAF and are to be strictly adhered to. No badges, logos, position placards or flags will be worn on any part of the uniform except for manufactures’ logos. NOTE… We may or may not have IFAF pocket patches available. That said, the shirts worn should be 2-inch striped shirts, no placards, no numbers, no association or federation patches… simply a plain 2-inch striped shirt.
The uniform must be clean, well kept and professionally manufactured. This also applies to equipment such as bean-bags, flags and shoes. It is anticipated that officials will be wearing short-sleeve shirts throughout the tournament… that said you should bring with you both a long a short sleeve shirt. Check your bags before leaving home so as to make sure you have forgotten anything. If flying to your assignment, you should NOT check your uniform bag. It should be carried on the plane as hand baggage. A second option is to gate check your officiating bag and a last option is to take as much of your critical uniform with you on the plane (shoes, pants, shirt, hat). Officials should spot-check each other before taking the field. Whenever an official leaves the locker room, except in civilian clothes, the complete uniform must be worn, including the hat.
1. SHIRT: Standard 2-inch striped black & white shirt with a Byron collar, black cuffs and breast pocket. The zipper must be zipped at the top or very close to the top. The crew must wear the same shirt… long or short sleeves. Again, no logos, placards, flags or badges other than the IFAF & manufacture’s logo may be visible.
2. BADGE: The IFAF badge is to be worn on the breast pocket with the top of the badge in line with the horizontal seam on the pocket. IFAF badges MAY be provided at the tournament site.
3. PANTS: Black pants with a 1&¼ inch white stripe down the each outside pants leg. Pants must be full length, no shorts are permitted.
4. BELTS: The belt must be black, one to one & one-half inches wide with a non-descript silver buckle.
5. SOCKS: Black socks are the only permissible sock.
6. SHOES: Mostly black shoes with black laces. Shoes should be polished and clean.
7. HATS: All officials except the referee will wear a black hat w/white piping, the referee a white hat. Hats must be sized.
8. EQUIPMENT:
o Whistles & lanyards must be BLACK. The use of a finger whistle is permitted. It is recommended that a spare whistle be carried by each official.
o Penalty Flags should be gold colored, approximately 10” by 10”. If a spare flag is carried, it should not be visible.
o Bean-Bags will be BLACK. It is recommended a 2nd bean-bag be carried by the deep officials.
o Game Data Cards will be carried and used by all officials to record the score, timeouts, etc. Be sure to have a writing utensil and a back up ready.
o Down Indicators will be worn by all officials to keep track of the downs & a 2nd indicator worn by umpires & center judges to keep track of ball placement between downs.
o Chain Clips will be utilized by each head linesman… it is recommended that two clips be used throughout the game.
o Watch… All officials with timing responsibilities must have a wristwatch with suitable timing features. Watches should be predominantly black.
o Coin… The referee must have a coin for use at the coin toss and potential over-time periods. Microphone… the referee must personally control all transmissions using the microphone… check/test your microphone out before each game and know who your on-field technician is in the event of a microphone malfunction.
PLEASE NOTE…
If you do not have this entire uniform we recommend you immediately contact an officiating supply company to order the items you need for tournament. There are several companies such as Honig’s Whistle Stop or Gerry Davis Sports that carry the plain 2-inch striped shirt and black pants.
