One additional note on the visas... this will vary federation to federation but IFAF nor the host China will pay for the visa... it's either something you pay for or get reimbursed by your federation. I would hope this would be part of the travel costs especially since housing/food isn't part of their cost.
Also... Either you or your federation has to do the airfare ticket. Again, neither China nor IFAF is setting that up.

fyi... I just returned from the Chinese Consulate in Chicago. I was not able to start, let alone complete the visa process because I did not have my confirmed airfare reservation (USAF for some reason has been SLOW on our flight requests). So before anyone else wastes a day going to their local consulate be sure you have everything needed... it may vary country to country. Not sure why the airfare reservation was required as I've obtained visas in the past prior to a purchased airline ticket. Makes no sense to purchase a ticket and then not receive a visa. Just curious too if anyone else experienced any problems???

It's the same here Bill. I've found almost every form I've tried to finish needs me to complete another part of the process.I believe I'm close to getting through the bureaucratic maze though.

Gentlemen,
Just reading through the Visa Application Process and here is an excerpt:
3. Special notes (1) The invitation letter may be in the form of fax, photocopy or computer printout, but the consular officer may require the applicant to submit the original of the invitation letter. An issuer of invitation letter who is an individual in China should also provide a photocopy of his/her Chinese ID.
This looks like I need a copy of the ID of the University President. Has anyone else run into this problem?

I collected my Visa and Passport this morning from the Visa Centre in Manchester When I presented the paperwork last friday including flight reservation - they told me that I didn't need proof of my flight reservation and handed it straight back to me. (I also had a copy of the original letter from Bill which they didn't need either) The only question I was asked was when they read the letter of invitation "Why exactly are you going to China?" I told them I was going to referee in the tournament mentioned in the invitation letter from Ken Li. The British Visa application also mentioned the Chinese ID of the inviter, which I didn't have. However as the letter of invitation has all the details of the the inviter, hist contact details and his institution (i.e. Harbin University), I made a reasonable assumption that if they wanted further clarification they would contact him or the University directly. (I don't know (and probably never will) if they contacted the President or the University.) Going a bit Sea Lawyer for a moment. The wording reads : "An issuer of invitation letter who is an individual in China should also provide a photocopy of his/her Chinese ID"That sentence may only apply if the inviter is an individual not acting on behalf of a company/institution/group. As I understand the invite is from Harbin University/AFU China not from the President himself (as an individual). The President is just the signatory to the letter as he's representing Harbin University.

Like many situations... it appears embassies are no different than coaches or officials... we can all read the same rule by interpret the play differently. Frank sent his question to Ken Li and Ken responded saying to call him direct if you encounter a problem at the embassy... off course it will be 12 hours time difference but nice of Ken to offer this.
Hello Frank, It should not be a problem. The same invitation letters were used by many officials and IFAF delegates for visa application in many countries. Take it with you to the visa center and if there is any questions, please call the number at the bottom of the letter or my mobile phone at +86 139 0118 0208 Let me know if questions. Thanks, Ken

I visited the Consulate this tuesday, and presented all the documents. No questions were asked. They asked me to collect my passport next tuesday, so fingers crossed...
